Structurally: B1.1 begins the Intermediate German sequence. Students will build on the grammatical structures acquired throughout the A2 level while developing greater accuracy and flexibility in their use of German. They will continue to work with subordinate clauses, the subjunctive, and past tenses while expanding their ability to create more complex sentences. Students will also focus on connectors, sentence structure, and strategies for expressing ideas in greater detail. Functionally: Students will expand their vocabulary and communication skills to discuss a wider range of personal, social, and professional topics. They will learn to express opinions, describe experiences and memories, discuss plans and goals, give advice, and explain reasons for their thoughts and decisions. Students will practice participating in conversations, sharing information, and communicating more effectively in everyday situations. Objectives: At the end of B1.1, students will be able to describe experiences and events in detail, express opinions and feelings, give explanations and advice, and participate more independently in conversations. They will be able to understand and summarize information from everyday texts and discussions, write connected texts about familiar topics, and communicate with greater confidence in personal and professional contexts. Course Dates, Location, & Time: This is a virtual class that meets for 12 weeks on Tuesday mornings from 9am – 11am.
