START 1: A1.1 (online~ Thurs. PM)

Course Description:

Designed for complete beginners of the German language, this course will provide students with an introduction to the sounds and structure of the German language. Students will learn the German alphabet, numbers and counting, phonetics, how to introduce themselves, and how to make simple statements. If you are eager to kick off your journey to proficiency in German, this is the course for you!

Course Objectives:

At the end of A 1.1 students will be able to introduce themselves and others, and offer basic information about themselves and ask others for the same. They will have received an introduction to the sound system in German and talk about and ask for things in their immediate environment.

Course Dates, Location, & Time:

This is an online class that meets for 12 weeks on Thursday evenings from 6:30PM - 8:30PM on Zoom. Additionally, the instructor will offer a weekly "office hour" (30 min) for homework questions and review. The course instructor will decide on a day/time to offer the 30-minute office hour and communicate day/time of week with all registered course participants.

**Important**: Participants are required to have their own laptop or device in order to participate in this online course, access to Zoom, and a general understanding or independence in regards to technology/online/virtual courses so that the course can stay on track for all participants.

• Cost: $75 for the set, available for purchase directly from the GAI by adding the textbook option to your cart.
• Order Deadline: Please note that the cutoff to order textbooks from the GAI will be 12/05/2025 in order to receive your books in time. Book orders placed after 12/01/2025 aren't guaranteed to be available by the start date, so we highly encourage participants to order textbooks during the initial registration.**
• Textbook Pickup: Books ordered before 12/05/2025 will be available for pick up approximately five business days prior to the first class session. Please be sure to check your email for updates about book pickup dates. 
• Shipping: If you live outside of the greater Minneapolis/St. Paul metro area and/or cannot pick up your books onsite at the GAI, you will need to select the shipping option at checkout. A $12.00 shipping & handling fee applies.

Minimum Enrollment:

If there are too few students registered to run a class section, the Director of Language Education will contact the student(s) in the week prior to the term’s start date to discuss other class options.
