START 3: A1.3 (ONLINE ~ Mon. PM)

• Structurally: This course is the last course of the first level A 1. Students will continue to familiarize themselves with the German sound system. In this course, students will learn the subjunctive and prepositions of time and place.
  
• Functionally: Students will continue to expand their vocabulary to talk about topics of personal interest, as places in their city, health and their personal taste in clothes. As they learn to use the prepositions of time and place, they can talk about past events and adventures.
  
• Objectives: At the end of A 1.3, students will be able to talk about their personal lives and offer some details. They can interact in a simple way – provided the other person talks slowly and clearly and is prepared to help. They will be able to pass the language proficiency test A1 of the Goethe-Institut.

Course Dates, Location, & Time:

This is an ONLINE class that meets for 12 weeks on Monday evenings from 6:30pm – 8:30pm on Zoom. Additionally, the instructor will offer a weekly "office hour" (30 min) for homework questions and review. The course instructor will decide on a day/time to offer the 30-minute office hour and communicate day/time of week with all registered course participants.

If you recently took the GAI's A1.2 course, you will not need to purchase new books. This course picks up were the A1.2 course left off. However, it is not required to have taken A1.2 at the GAI to participate in this course. Please take the free placement test via the link on the main season page to confirm your language proficiency.

• Cost: $75 for the set, available for purchase directly from the GAI by adding the textbook option to your cart.
• Order Deadline: Please note that in order to receive your books in-time when ordered from the GAI, we ask to order no later than March 15. You are still welcome to order after that date and we will do our best to get the books here for the first class.
• Textbook Pickup: Books ordered before March 15 will be available for pick up approximately one week prior to the first class session.
• Shipping: If you live outside of the greater Minneapolis/St. Paul metro area and/or cannot pick up your books at the GAI, you will need to select the shipping option at checkout. A $12.00 shipping & handling fee applies

If there are too few students registered to run a class section, the Director of Language Education will contact the student(s) in the week prior to the term’s start date to discuss other class options.
