B1.2 (in person ~Thurs. AM)

• Structurally: B1.2 continues the Intermediate German sequence. Students will reinforce and expand the grammatical structures introduced in B1.1 while developing greater accuracy and flexibility in their use of German. They will continue to work with complex sentence structures, connectors, the passive voice, relative clauses, and additional grammatical tools that allow them to express ideas in more detailed and precise ways.
• Functionally: Students will strengthen their ability to communicate in a variety of everyday, social, and professional situations. They will discuss personal experiences, social topics, and cultural themes while learning to express opinions, give explanations, compare ideas, and participate more actively in conversations. Students will continue to expand their vocabulary and improve their listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills.
• Objectives: At the end of B1.2, students will be able to communicate more independently in familiar and unfamiliar situations, describe experiences and events in detail, express and support their opinions, and participate in discussions by agreeing, disagreeing, and responding appropriately. They will be able to understand the main ideas of more complex texts and conversations and produce clearer, more structured spoken and written German.

Course Dates, Location & Time:

This is an in-person class that meets for 12 weeks on Thursday mornings from 9:30pm – 11:30pm at the GAI (301 Summit Ave., St. Paul, MN). Part of this course registration includes an optional 30-minute "office hour" for students where they can ask questions about homework or other topics in the class.
