Spaß in der Mittelstufe (B1+/B2) - Wed AM

Course Description:

This class will continue in our book:  "Milchgeld", of the Kommissar Kluftinger series. This smart, loveable and socially awkward detective, at home in the Allgäu region of Bavaria, will introduce us to traditions and customs of his hometown Altusried, as well as to his beloved Kääspatz'n. We will also dive into the cultural context of the series, as Kluftinger is trying to find the path towards a resolution, past many a situation in which his social competences are needed as much as his criminal ones.  Learn in a fun environment that focuses on communication and teaches important language skills for everyday life.

Course Objectives:

After completing this class, participants can understand the main content of a "Krimi" (murdery mystery) We will continue to produce written and spoken text and will dip more into the abstract. Learning how to make Käsespätzle, Kluftinger's favorite dish,  is also part of the curriculum.

Meeting Times:

This is an in-person class that meets for 12 weeks on Wednesday mornings from 9:30 am to 12:00-noon at the GAI (301 Summit Ave). Of the 2.5 hours listed for this class, 30 minutes is dedicated as an "office hour" where students are encouraged to ask questions about homework, review/clarify lesson materials, etc. This is already built in to the course time/length and price.

Textbook:

"Milchgeld" - Kommissar Kluftinger's erster Fall.

• If you took this class last semester, there is no need to purchase a book. 
  

• Cost: $25 for this paperback, standard chapter book, available for purchase directly from the GAI by adding the textbook option to your cart at checkout.
  

• Shipping: If you live outside of the greater Minneapolis/St. Paul metro area and cannot pick up your books at the GAI, you will need to select the shipping option at checkout as well. A $10.00 shipping & handling fee applies.

• Pickup/Shipping: Please note that the cutoff to order textbooks from the GAI will be March 16, 2025 in order to receive a textbook on time. Book orders or course registrations after March 16th will be available on the first day of class.

Minimum Enrollment:

If there are too few students registered to run a class section, the Director of Language Education will contact the student(s) in the week prior to the term’s start date to discuss other class options.
