START 1: A1.1 (in-person) - Wed. AM

Course Description:

Designed for complete beginners of the German language, this course will provide students with an introduction to the sounds and structure of the German language. Students will learn the German alphabet, numbers and counting, phonetics, how to introduce themselves, and how to make simple statements. If you are eager to kick off your journey to proficiency in German, this is the course for you!

Course Objectives:

At the end of A 1.1 students will be able to introduce themselves and others, and offer basic information about themselves and ask others for the same. They will have received an introduction to the sound system in German and talk about and ask for things in their immediate environment.

Course Dates, Location, & Time:

This is an in-person class that meets for 12 weeks on Wednesday mornings at the GAI (301 Summit Ave., St. Paul, MN). Additionally, the instructor will offer a weekly "office hour" (30 min) for homework questions and review. The course instructor will decide on a day/time to offer the 30-minute office hour and communicate day/time of week with all registered course participants.

• Cost: $75 for the set, available for purchase directly from the GAI by adding the textbook option to your cart.
  

• Shipping: If you live outside of the greater Minneapolis/St. Paul metro area and cannot pick up your books at the GAI and need them shipped to you, you will need to select the shipping option at checkout as well. A $10.00 shipping & handling fee applies

• Textbook Pickup: You will receive your textbooks (if you ordered them through the GAI before 3/16/25) on the first day of class upon arrival.
  

• Order Deadline: Please note that the cutoff to order textbooks from the GAI will be March 16, 2025 in order to receive a textbook on time. Book orders placed after March 16th cannot be guaranteed to be available by the start date, therefore we recommend purchasing the books during your course registration today!

Minimum Enrollment:

If there are too few students registered to run a class section, the Director of Language Education will contact the student(s) in the week prior to the term’s start date to discuss other class options.
