B1.1 (in-person) - Mon. PM

Course Description:

Our B1.1 course is for students who have completed the entire A2 level (A2.1, A2.2, & A2.3) and are ready to move into the B1 level. This is the start of the intermediate German sequence and also a level where students will learn a completely new case: The Genitive case, its prepositions, and a number of other prepositions. Students will also expand their knowledge of subjunctive forms to express hypothetical situations. Students will begin to express an opinion and offer reasons for their decisions, as well as to write commentaries. They will learn to order information chronologically using past and past-perfect tenses. They will be able to book a trip with a travel agency, talk about purchases, and report a complaint about a faulty product.

Course Objectives:

At the end of our B1.1 course, students will be able to information about health, media, language learning, and they will also be able to distinguish attitudes by using intonation patterns, express an opinion, and reject an argument.

Course Dates, Times & Location:

This is an in person class that meets for 12 weeks on Monday evenings, from 6:30pm to 8:30pm at the GAI (301 Summit Ave., St. Paul, MN). Additionally, the instructor will offer a weekly "office hour" (30 min) for homework questions and review. The course instructor will decide on a day/time to offer the 30-minute office hour and communicate day/time of week with all registered course participant

Schritte International NEU 5+6 – Chapters 1 - 5 – (Kursbuch & Arbeitsbuch)

• Cost: $75 for the set, available for purchase directly from the GAI by adding the textbook option to your cart.
  

• Shipping: If you live outside of the greater Minneapolis/St. Paul metro area and cannot pick up your books at the GAI, or if you are taking an online class and need them shipped to you, you will need to select the shipping option at checkout as well. A $10.00 shipping & handling fee applies.
  

• Pickup: If you ordered textbooks before the book ordering cutoff date of March 21, 2025, your books will be available for pickup one week before the start of the course. Book orders placed after March 16th will be available on the first day of class. If you did not order a textbook through the GAI, you will not see a $75 textbook charge in your confirmation email.

If there are too few students registered to run a class section, the Director of Language Education will contact the student(s) in the week prior to the term’s start date to discuss other class options.
