Course Description:

A2.1 is the first step in the A2 sequence, and is designed for students with 9 to 12 months of German study or completion of our START 3 (A1.3) course at the GAI. Students will continue to expand and practice structures they have learned so far. In this class, students will add reflexive verbs, modal verbs, and speak in the past tense. By adding subordinate clauses starting with weil, wenn, dass, and als, sentences will become increasingly complex. Students will learn about two-way prepositions and the comparative and superlative forms. In addition, participants will expand their vocabulary to talk about travel, personal interestes, and their job. If you are ready to take the next step in your German language learning, this is the course for you! Come learn in a relaxed, fun, and productive online environment!

Course Objectives:

At the end of A2.1, students will be able to talk about their personal lives and offer some details about their personal lives and describe some details about their education, career, as well as their hopes and dreams. They will start to learn how to express their emotions within their speaking, and they will be able to interact with others in a simple way, provided that the other person speaks slowly and clearly.

Course Dates & Times:

This is an ONLINE class that meets for 12 weeks on Tuesday mornings from 9:00am to 11:00am on Zoom. Additionally, the instructor will offer a weekly "office hour" (30 min) for homework questions and review. The course instructor will decide on a day/time to offer the 30-minute office hour and communicate day/time of week with all registered course participants.

• Cost: $75 for the set, available for purchase directly from the GAI by adding the textbook option to your cart.

• Shipping: If you live outside of the greater Minneapolis/St. Paul metro area and cannot pick up your books at the GAI, or if you are taking an online class and need them shipped to you, you will need to select the shipping option at checkout as well. A $10.00 shipping & handling fee applies.

• Pickup/Shipping: Please note that the cutoff to order textbooks from the GAI will be March 16, 2025 in order to receive a textbook on time. Book orders placed after March 16th will be available on the first day of class.

If there are too few students registered to run a class section, the Director of Language Education will contact the student(s) in the week prior to the term’s start date to discuss other class options.
